Description

Embossed leather dagger or knife sheath. Top section has a panel decorated with thick crosses dividing sections of floral designs. Made from a single piece with a slight curve; back portion is open and has remnants of the stitching still visible. Possibly broken off at one end, small cracks to the surface and a section at the point is missing.

On the reverse of the card is the original label: 'These nine Exhibits together with the accompanying portion of Habergeon were discovered by the late City Engineer and Surveyor of Peterboro' Mr Gill during his extension of the drainage of the city. They were unearthed in the vicinity of the Cathedral and presented to the Exhibitor by his son (the Assistant Engineer and Surveyor) (Exhibitor Mr I G. Rudler. Hawkshead, Lancashire)'.
