Description
Leather dagger or knife sheath. Embossed top surface with spiral floral design split into two panels, one rectangular, one triangular as the sheath tapers. The underside is partially open with the stitching holes visible; it also has incised slashes possibly in the form of foliage. The tip of the sheath has a portion of the outer panel missing. Some areas of loss across the object's surface.

On the reverse of the card is the original label: 'These nine Exhibits together with the accompanying portion of Habergeon were discovered by the late City Engineer and Surveyor of Peterboro' Mr Gill during his extension of the drainage of the city. They were unearthed in the vicinity of the Cathedral and presented to the Exhibitor by his son (the Assistant Engineer and Surveyor) (Exhibitor Mr I G. Rudler. Hawkshead, Lancashire)'.
