The language and handwriting of the following note is difficult to decipher. See original card [now missing]. 'These objects [1927.466] and those described on the two following cards [1927.467-468] were bought by Miss. M.E. Durham from the sister of the former priest of Shllaku, the adjoining tribe, who had opened a number of graves. Other graves were excavated by Baron Franz Nepesa and by M.A. Degrand'.

Context (Analysis)
When this collection was accessioned, the findspot was listed as 'a cemetery on the side of a mountain in the tribe land of the Komani in North Albania' without naming the cemetery. However, the mention of Alexandre Degrand confirms that it is the cemetery of Komani (ancient Dalmace). It was originally identified in 1867 and first excavated in 1898 by Alexandre Degrand, former French consul in Shkodra, and unofficial digs took place over several decades. The Place field has been updated from 'Komani District' accordingly. The original Period was given as 'Post Roman' and a tentative date range given as 'possibly 4th-6th century'; the Period field has been amended to Late Antique and Early Medieval, but needs further investigation. Finger ring of copper alloy. Formed of a thin circular hoop; with a flat, oval bezel plate decorated with an etched star, formed of two triangles and surrounded by a border of small notched circles.
