Description

Tenugui (手拭い). Rectangular towel (1) of woven fabric, probably cotton or linen, still in paper packaging (2). Towel with spiral vine-like design interspersed with gourds in one corner, Japanese characters appear in black at the centre of the towel and in blue at one end. Paper wrapping with designs in red and blue including; a knotted cord outlined in red; tiny blue birds; a red sun fading to one end; and red flowers with blue lines, possibly Kori-ume or plum and cracking ice design.
