Context (Found together / assemblage)
Four tuning pegs were found in box labelled: "Bits of African musical instruments from cupboards in N.[orth] Lecture Room" [Anita Herle's handwriting, circa 1990s]"
Two old labels were also found in the box:
(1) written on fragment of postcard "Guitar. Bought from owner / Casa Blanca. Nov'r 1911 / A.v.H"
(2) fragment of label "Nov. 1884 / [M]usical instrument / [b]anjo, B.E.A - / []sho had [?arms] / Nyasa (W.side) / []udal plantation".
It is unknown whether the labels refer to any of the fragments found in the same box. [Katrina Dring, 25/02/2020]
