Context (Field collection)
If from Vounous, then it was excavated by James Stewart, British School at Athens, 1937-1938. If it is from Visilia, it was likely collected at the same time; according to Eve Stewart, 'at weekends, he and his foreman, Tryphonas Koulermos, often explored other Bronze Age sites on the north of the island; they collected sherds from ... Vasilia, among other sites' (Stewart, Eve. (2013). ‘Eve Stewart on James Stewart’. In Knapp, A.B, Webb, J.M. and McCarthy, A. (eds). JRB Stewart: An Archaeological Legacy. Studies in Mediterranean Archaeology, 139. Uppsala: P. Aströms Förlag. pp. xiii).

Context (Analysis)
Rafael Laoutari, PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge examined these sherds and determined that they are actually from two vessels. The two sherds with a pierced ledge-shaped handle are from a second vessel; Laoutari believes that they are most likely from Vounous, based on the style of the handle. Therefore, the larger vessel is now 1951.2016.1 and the two sherds with handle are 1951.2016.2.
