It contains three items: A broad brimmed hat of black horsehair gauze ("kat") (B), with flat crown (Puritan type). An extinguisher shaped, oilskin cover (drawn over the hat in wet weather) (C). A headband of horsehair (D), worn under hat to hold up man's hair.'

According to Dr Keith Howard of SOAS, University of London, the hat is known as a 'kat' and 'manufacturing process preserved as an intangible cultural asset - plenty of publications available'. (Korea Museums Group visit to CUMAA, 19/02/1994).

Description (Physical description)
Broad brimmed hat of black horsehair gauze ('gat'), secured to reeds, which have been lacquered black. The hat has a narrow, flat crown (Puritan style design). There are two long, flexible strips attached to the inner rim of the hat, which would secure the hat under the chin.
