This object used to be mounted on a wooden display board. A handwritten label affixed to the back of the board reads: 'Watch in silver case, by T. Samson, London, 1787; and silver key. The Baroness A. von Hügel ,1906. [A.1906.133.]'. Also written on the back of the board in pencil: '[Illegible] made by T. Samson, London in the year 1787. Britten mentions a Samuel Samson of Westminster, who made watches of this kind in repoussé - [illegible] cases for the Dutch market. A.1906.133. Silver Watch. Baroness A. von Hügel'.
