Context (Amendments / updates)
Although this object appears to have been collected in Ickworth ('Icworth' on the label/accession register entry), the watch was originally made in London. As such, the Place field has been filled as 'Europe; British Isles; England; Suffolk; Ickworth | Europe; British Isles; England; London'.
Also, although the accession entry register and one label give the donor as the Cambridge Antiquarian Society, another label lists Baroness von Hügel as having donated the object. Further to clarifying this, the Source field has hence been here filled as 'von Hügel, Anatole (Baroness) [donor]; Cambridge Antiquarian Society [monetary donor]'.

The back of the case has a small hole for the insertion of a winder key, is stamped with a 'WP' hallmark on the inside, has a protruding crown and penannular suspension loop, and both the internal mechanism and front bevel are hinged at the top of the case below the crown. The face is of white china, with the hours from 1-12, and additional numbers at the quarter marks for 15, 30, 45 and 60. There are two steel hands, the longer for the minutes and the shorter for the hours. The movement is of a rear-wound verge fusee type, and its back is part decorated with elaborate scrolled/foliate motifs in chased pinchbeck brass.
