Description
Inner (1) and outer (2) pair cases for a pocket watch. The inner case is of undecorated pinchbeck brass, with a small hallmark on the inside, a hinged front bezel, and a protruding crown with hinged penannular suspension loop. The outer case also has a hinged front bezel, in lined with pink silk on the inside back, and covered on the outer surface with leather decorated with copper studs. On the back of the case these studs form the monogram "SP".

The object was found mounted on a wooden display board. A handwritten label affixed to the back of the board reads: 'The cases of a watch in pinchbeck Brass Gilt. c. 1780. The outer case, covered with shagreen Leather. bears in copper stud--work, the monogram S.P. The Baroness A. von Hügel, 1906. [A.1906.287.]', and below it is written in pencil: 'A.1906.287. Bt. Cambridge, 1906. The Baroness A. von Hügel'.
