Description
Rectnagular child's skirt produced from partial used hand-woven textile in the pocomchi style of Tactic in the Alta Verapaz of Guatemala. Cut from larger skirt, still contains original elastic waistband. Hem made from selvedge. Fraying along cut edge. The main colour is red pink with black long vertical stripes some of which have faded. Part of a three-piece demonstration of local 'traje' or costume.

Previously used by a child. Unknown family. Child's skirt in the traditional style of a pocomchi woman's corte in the communities surrounding Tactic in the Alta Verapaz of Guatemala. Probably heavy duty cotton. Original skirt produced on a floor loom in the same region. Red dye suffered sun damage & fading. Small section of garment exposed to less sun & maintains more of the original colour. Part of a three-piece demonstration of local 'traje' or costume.
