Description

Chamisa. Long rectangular hand-woven white cotton shawl with fringe; five yellow chevrons bands of patterns as decoration. Motif includes stars nestled in the triangle valleys, last two decorated with big eyed bird. Weave and weft produced entirely using number 22 white cotton thread produced in San Salvador, El Salvador. Yellow brocade pattern produced using commercially dyed cotton thread.

Label noted 'Many weavers depend on selling their picb’il textiles in international markets to help support their families. These scarves are examples of the products designed and made by weavers. Some communities work with intermediaries who have access to distant markets in New Mexico in the United States, Japan, and Belgium.'

First three bands of chevrons decorated with stars nestled in the triangle valleys, last two decorated with big eyed bird. Second fringe (big eyed bird side) not finished. Weave and weft produced entirely using number 22 white cotton thread produced in San Salvador, El Salvador. Yellow brocade pattern produced using commercially dyed cotton thread. Minor staining on edge in centre, likely from coffee during production process.
