Description (Physical description)
Ceremonial spear with an elaborately decorated steel spearhead, which is inlaid with panels of brass and inlaid with brass scroll work. The blade is socketed with two prongs extending down the shaft, which would have been secured with nails or rivets (not present). The shaft is made from wood and lacquered mostly red with black at either extreme end. The shaft is decorated with smaller, sporadic black bands and highlighted with decorated yellow flowers, scrolls and geometric shapes. The central grip is lacquered green.

'This spear was found in the Bevan store when cataloguing the rest of the Sri Lankan spears. There was no record found on the database and a gap in the numbering sequence which matched this spear [1923.52]. Upon checking the accession register, a record has now been created for it using the number 1923.52'.
