Ceremonial fan [1923.64.1]. Circular disc of coconut fibre with mica sections inlaid. Fixed into a slotted lacquered staff and fastened with a rivet [1923.64.2].

Description (Physical description)
Lacquered wooden staff, which is split [purposefully] one third of the way down the length of the staff. This allows for a coconut fibre ceremonial fan [1923.64.1] to be slotted into place and secured with a rivet [not present with the staff]. The staff is mostly lacquered red, with black tips and yellow detail including scroll work, floral patterns and geometric shapes.
