Context (Other owners)
This object is part of a larger loan of Palaeolithic material from the French Government to the Museum, arranged in 1919 between Dr Reinach and Miles Burkitt for use as a teaching collection (see Loan File). Most of the objects are marked with the Musée des Antiquités Nationales (MAN)’s distinctive red number. They were accessioned in 1978 with Z numbers, but remain on loan from MAN.

Context (Amendments / updates)
This object is incorrectly marked 1923.1074, erroneously connecting it to Palaeolithic material donated by William Ransom. It is instead part of Z 25814, which was lent to the museum from Musée des Antiquités Nationales (MAN) and is marked with MAN's numbering system; this identification was confirmed by loan lists (see Loan File) and by the manuscript note found with other objects also catalogued as Z 25814. It is unclear why or when this mistake took place, but it may relate to the fact that 1923.1074 and Z 25814 are both Palaeolithic material from France.
