Context (Analysis)
Cf. London Museum Medieval Catalogue, Plate XXXI, no. 46 - a Type VIIA key from London. Type VIIA keys with circular/oval bows are said to date from the 13-14th centuries, whilst those with 'kidney-shaped' bows are characteristic of the 15th century. Given the 'D'-shaped bow of this key does not immediately fit such a categorisation, the Period field has been filled here simply as 'Medieval'.
