Description

Ink stand and sand sprinkler. Rectangular wooden box with raised rectangular centre section with curved 'gutter' (for pens?) down each side and curved finials on the ends. Centre section contains an ink pot with a glass stopper and a sand shaker. Whole box mounted on four feet - has two drawers in the front. Decorated all over with intricate straw marquetry in gold, black brown, green and purple, in floral and geometric designs.

This box appears on the 1947 loan list of French Prisoner-of-War material sent on permanent loan to Peterborough Museum (GO3/1/10). It is noted as having 'No Number', as were several other objects, but it is not clear whether they had never been accessioned into the museum's collection before being transferred or had lost their accession number.
