Description
Key with double-cusped heart-shaped bow and pointed finial, cylindrical pin shank, and single bit widening towards the bottom. The entire object is fairly corroded, but the bit has an 'S'-shaped form due to key wards cut in both front and rear edges, and appears to have additional wards cut into its bottom edge.

Context (Analysis)
Although this key was initially described as Medieval, comparison with similar specimens in the Museum's collection (see especially 1948.1711 A-C - also with heart-shaped double-cusped bows with protruding finials, and 'S'-shaped bits) suggests a far more likely Post Medieval provenance. As such, the Period field has been changed from 'Medieval' to 'Post Medieval'.
