Description

Fragment of an iron buckle with a rounded frame corroded to to the bottom of a copper alloy chape. Chape is in two fragments and shows three complete and one incomplete rivet hole; iron rivet remains in one of the rivet holes.

In his report, Lethbridge notes that 'Five Anglo-Saxon skeletons have recently been examined in the garden of Dr Lachlan, 24 Barton Road, Cambridge. They are from poorly-furnished graves of the Pagan Period and yielded a spear, shield boss, wrist clasps and pottery' (p. xxii).

Description (Physical description)
A: Fragmentary pair of bronze wristclasps, consisting of flat plates of bronze ornamented with small raised bosses along the middle, and borders of punch-marks. Also a fragmentary iron buckle with bronze chape.
B: A few small sherds of R-B pottery, including one sherd of a red mortarium; also some Iron Age pottery and two iron spears
