Description (Physical description)
A number of hand-coloured plates from Edward Upham's 'The History and doctrine of Budhism popularly illustrated; with notices of the Kappooism, or demon worship, and of the Bali, or planetary incantations, of Ceylon'. The book contained 'forty-three lithographic prints from original Singalese designs'. Some of the pages have traces of dark card or paper on the reverse where they have been mounted. One has pencil drawings of male and female faces on the reverse, apparently after European paintings.

Description (Physical description)
Lithographic print displaying deities and demons of the Sri Lankan Bali tradition. Depicted is a green skinned deity called 'Wiebesenne'. He is shown adorned with numerous arm, waist and ear ornaments with a blue and red textile wrapped around the waist. In one hand is a blue sword. He has two tusks erupting from the sides of his mouth. To either side of the figure is a brightly coloured bird, possibly a cockerel, with a gold coloured plant in its beak. Elaborate crown is depucted on the head of the figure. The number 23 is printed in the top right corner.
