Context (Amendments / updates)
It is likely that this nave hoop had an alternative accession number associated with it. Its label '[illegible] Suffolk Sept 1897' links it to other objects from Santon - [illegible] because the label is obscured by another object wedged on it. It is possible therefore that it was part of the 1897.179 group of material whose entry was crossed out in the accession register - a note next to this reads 'see no 218', as this is the start of the Santon hoard numbers. It is unclear when and why this occurred but it has been added to the MAA Number field as a tentative incorrect number. The object's current accession number, 1897.220.3 has been assigned in order to identify it from other bronze objects of this idno with the suffix .3 given to reflect the now new set of suffixes for all 1897.220 accession numbers. See individual records for objects .1-8 which actually reflect 2009 Spratling numbers 33-38 and 1966 Spratling numbers 34-39.

Context (Amendments / updates)
The original Spratling MGS number associated with this object was found to be from the earlier, 1966, iteration of his unpublished thesis, Spratling MGS 36. The updated, 2009, Spratling number is Spratling MGS 35 and this has now been added in the Other numbers field (see Context: References).
