Description

Key with ovate, slightly cusped bow, pipe shank with a trefoil-shaped cross-section, and single bit which thickens from the shank to its bottom edge. The bit has a bullet groove at the bottom along one side, plus key wards cut into the front and back edges, and a central pattern of key wards piercing the bit in the form of a cross with offset arms.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
Nine apparently unaccessioned keys (TEMP.00728-TEMP.00735) were found together in the museum store. Some or all of them may have been accessioned and become disassociated with their museum number, or they may never have been formally accessioned into the museum's collection. Five of these keys (TEMP.00728-TEMP.00731.1-2) have been identified as belonging to the Braybrooke Collection (see individual Context notes). All nine keys were found with a note reading 'NO PROV'.
