Context (Production / use)
Despite being found in a box of Post Medieval material, the label identifies this key as coming from the Roman villa site of Foxcote excavated by Lord Chandos in 1839. Comparison with similar keys in the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (see especially NARC-F9B505) further supports a Roman date for this object. As such, the Period field has been filled as 'Roman'.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
Nine apparently unaccessioned keys (TEMP.00728-TEMP.00735) were found together in the museum store. Some or all of them may have been accessioned and become disassociated with their museum number, or they may never have been formally accessioned into the museum's collection. Five of these keys (TEMP.00728-TEMP.00731.1-2) have been identified as belonging to the Braybrooke Collection (see individual Context notes). All nine keys were found with a note reading 'NO PROV'.
