Description

Small crotal bell with intact, though heavily worn, suspension loop. Two holes in the upper half of the body, and two more connected by an elongated sound slot in the lower half. Only the lower half displays decoration, albeit highly worn. This takes the form of a three-armed cross either side of the sound slot, surrounded by a semicircle and radiating lines. The inner contains a cast iron 'pea'.

Nineteen apparently unaccessioned crotal bells (TEMP.00685-TEMP.00703) were found together in the museum store. Some or all of them may have been accessioned and become disassociated with their museum number, or they may never have been formally accessioned into the museum's collection.
