Context (Analysis)
Craig Cessford of the Cambridge Archaeological Unit examined this tile in November 2018 and dates it to the 13th century or early 14th century, based on the relative crudeness of the fabric and presuming it comes from St John's Hospital. He also notes that it could be of local manufacture. The Period field has been updated accordingly.

Context (Analysis)
When the deposit of three tiles (D 1936.15 A-B) was record in 1936, the catalogue card noted 'Provenance unknown'. A subsequent hand added '?St John's, see under St John's'. It is likely that if these tiles did come from St John's College itself, that they relate to the medieval St John's Hospital. This has been tentatively added to the Place field, but more work needs to be done to firmly establish their provenance.
