Description

Spherical crotal bell with intact suspension loop. There are two holes in the upper half, one being quite large, and an elongated sound slot connecting two further holes in the lower half. The upper half is undecorated, and whilst the lower half is decorated it is also highly worn. This decoration appears to take the form of a three-armed cross surrounded by a semicircle and radiating lines on either side of the sound slot. The inner cavity is empty.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
Eight apparently unaccessioned crotal bells (TEMP.00679-TEMP.00684.1-2) were found together in the museum store. Four of them (TEMP.00683.1-2 and TEMP.00684.1-2) have remains of old object labels, although they may not be museum object labels. Some or all of them may have been accessioned and become disassociated with their museum number, or they may never have been formally accessioned into the museum's collection.
