Description

Man's parka with hood, made from seal skin. Torso has natural dark patterning down middle of front and back; hood is trimmed with dark haired seal skin at the opening; long sleeves with turned cuffs; bottom hem turned to the inside; sewn with cotton thread or cord. Large areas of hair missing.

Description (Physical description)
Judy Hall: 'Parka, for man. Made of sealskin with the fur to the exterior. Front, extending to chest only, is made from basically one piece with smaller pieces added to each side. Back is made from a single piece which extends over the shoulders to the front and forms part of the sleeves. A triangular insert is sewn to each side at the bottom edge. Hood is made from a separate piece with rectangular extension under the chin and at centre back between the shoulders. Lower part of each sleeve is made from several pieces of sealskin with the fur to the exterior. Band of dark haired sealskin is sewn around face opening and around edge of each sleeve. Skin at the straight bottom edge is turned to the interior. Structural sewing is with beige thread. "J.M.S." in black ink interior of hood.'
