Description
Omomizi. A wooden carving of a kneeling figure with a vessel balanced on top of the head. The figure's arms are by the sides, but with elbows pointing to the front of the body. There is a block depicted in front of the knees which has an X carved in relief.

Probably done by the same artist as Z 13077.1. Figure of a kneeling woman made of very light wood. She carries a pot on her head. Northcote Thomas label reads: ‘figure from a shrine’ and ‘omo mizi’.

The inhabitants of Okpe town belong to the Edo ethnic group, and also identify themselves further as Okpe people. The language they speak is also referred to as Okpe. See Blench 1995.
