Context (Other)
The coffin listed as coming to the museum in 'Tarkhan II' (which covers 1912-1913 season when the Accession Register says this coffin was collected) appears to be a wooden coffins (see p. 6 and Pl. XVII), not the oval pottery coffin described in the Accession Register. Indeed, the table on page 23 shows that only 4 pottery coffins were found (1 in SD 77 and 3 in SD 81), possibly over multiple field seasons. However, in 'Tarkhan I' (which covers 1911-1912 season) there is an oval pottery coffin containing the burial of a child from grave 1034 (see pp. 15 & 26 and Pl. XXII). This is not one of the grave groups listed 'Tarkhan I' as coming to the museum (see p. 30), but these distribution lists are not always accurate. The other 3 pottery coffins that were found are not immediately obvious in either publication. It is therefore not currently known whether this coffin is the child's coffin from 1034 from the 1911-1912 season, or one of the other 3 pottery coffins, or none of the above.
