Context (Related Documents)
The coffin is stored in what appears to be its original packing crate (with original packing material), which provides some clues as to its provenance. The crate is marked in black paint '6.' on all four sides and '61' on the top bar. This top bar is also marked 'PET', possibly referring to Petrie. Two handwritten labels were subsequently affixed to the crate once it arrived at the museum. One reads 'Egyptian. Keyser Hall'. The other is greatly faded, although it appears to be in Anatole von Hügel's hand. It reads:
'0[0?]
[unclear] coffin
[unclear unclear]
Egypt [Sept.? Expl.?]
19[1?]3'

Context (Analysis)
As this object appears to have remained in its shipping crate since it arrived at the museum, it is possible that it was never accessioned. However, an oval pottery coffin that was excavated by Flinders Petrie in 1912-1913 and was accessioned in 1915 has no current location: 1915.235, possibly reaccessioned as Z 44766. This could conceivably fit with the labels found on the shipping crate: the label with '1913' (if that is the correct transcription) could then refer to the excavation year; Petrie excavated Tarkand and this might be what the 'Pet' on the crate refers to; and since the coffin must have arrived between 1913 and 1915, this would track with the label for the Keyser Hall, which was begun in December 1913 and completed in March 1915. Therefore Petrie and Tarkhan have been tentatively added to the entry, but it is not certain whether they are one and the same object and more research is necessary.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
A single bead was found in coffin TEMP.00610 along with TEMP.00609 and 1951.262 on 10/09/2018. It is not known if it relates to any of these items, but was left bagged in TEMP.00610 along with a detached label which reads '14'.
The bead has now been assigned the temp number TEMP.01992 with ?Egypt suggested as the Place due to its association with the coffin and the material of glass or faience. '?14' hass been added in the other number field of all of the above records.
