Context (Acquisition Details)
Material excavated by Addyman in the 1960s and only recently donated to the Museum, when it was catalogued in bulk records. The finds from the Late Saxon settlement (see PCAS vol. 64) and those late Medieval and Post Medieval finds from a fishpond and 18th century house (see Post-Medieval Archaeology vol. 6) may sometimes share a single record, which will ultimately need to be split further.

Description (Physical description)
Addyman (1972): 'Four sections of a child's shoe, possibly a veldtschoen, aprroximately a childs size 6. The vamp has a simple central slit, the wings are butted and stitched to the front of the quarters. There is a small hole for a tie across the foot. Seam on throat of the V and along top edge of quarters. The quarters turn outwards with a single line of stitch holes but the vamp has repair holes. Stiffener has a scalloped top edge where it has been stitched to the quarters. Sole is an unusual shape at the heal end, square-cut, repair indicated by the more than one row of holes around the soles margin.'
