Accession No
2007.449 D
Description
Diamond shape piece of shoe leather with two opposite edges stitched with butted seams. The third edge is cut, and the fourth is torn. There are three large holes near the corner of the cut and stitched edges. Separate piece of thong suggest this is a bow cut boot quarter. Front seam is an edged flesh butted one, 'blind' on the outside and stitched together. The back seam is similar, trace of an inside seam at the back probably showing a ?stiffner.

Context (Acquisition Details)
Material excavated by Addyman in the 1960s and only recently donated to the Museum, when it was catalogued in bulk records. The finds from the Late Saxon settlement (see PCAS vol. 64) and those late Medieval and Post Medieval finds from a fishpond and 18th century house (see Post-Medieval Archaeology vol. 6) may sometimes share a single record, which will ultimately need to be split further.
