Description

41 bags of assorted pottery sherds, both glazed and unglazed with a few patterned examples; there is a Romano-British sherd with lion head detail. Additionally there are is also building material, like bricks, daub, plaster, and roof tiles, a loom weight fragment, a spindle whorl, one shard of glass as well as vitrified clay, possibly a leftover of kiln material, and a piece of iron slag. In addition, some bags also contain calcined and uncalcined bone fragments.

Context (Acquisition Details)
Material excavated by Addyman in the 1960s and only recently donated to the Museum, when it was catalogued in bulk records. The finds from the Late Saxon settlement (see PCAS vol. 64) and those late Medieval and Post Medieval finds from a fishpond and 18th century house (see Post-Medieval Archaeology vol. 6) may sometimes share a single record, which will ultimately need to be split further.
