Description

Ten bags of pottery sherds, tiles, mortar and two fragments of glass. Includes glazed and unglazed, shell tempered and grit tempered wares, colour-coated, St Neots Ware and possible Thetford Ware; upright, everted, squared, flanged and thumbed rims, flat bases; one sherd from a mortarium; green, black, yellow, brown and white glazes; one handle decorated with thumb impressions and stabbing, other sherds with grooves and impressed patterns; two sherds with intentional holes; one fragment of glass from the rim of a thick-walled vessel and one thin walled fragment.

Three sherds, including one rim sherd with an intentional hole, were found in an envelope indicating that they were excavated by Charles Frederick Tebbutt in 1929 and included in this 2007 donation.

Context (Acquisition Details)
Material excavated by Addyman in the 1960s and only recently donated to the Museum, when it was catalogued in bulk records. The finds from the Late Saxon settlement (see PCAS vol. 64) and those late Medieval and Post Medieval finds from a fishpond and 18th century house (see Post-Medieval Archaeology vol. 6) may sometimes share a single record, which will ultimately need to be split further.
