Description (Physical description)
Thin section of a ground stone axe with pecked surface, mounted on a slide.
Event Date 20/8/2018
Author: Eleanor Wilkinson

Context (Analysis)
The slide is marked '229 XHL', which refers to the small finds (SF) number in MacKie (1985) with the three-letter code ‘XHL’ denoting the excavation number. However, SF 229.XHL does not appear in MacKie (1985); the closest match is SF 229.XHI, described as being a 'fragment of ground stone axe of quartz porphyrite.' As such, excavation numbers and small finds numbers associated with both XHI and XHL have been tentatively added to the 'Other Numbers' field.
