General note on 1925.56-1925.60. Notes and catalogue to be found in Sri Lanka boxed material. 1925.57 and 1925.58 are listed in the Tapp Ceylon Catalogue which is with the specimens. There is also a letter from Hartley. 1925.57 has been further divided according to site, and sometimes where there is a great amount of material according to date and whether it was found above or below surface. In describing the objects generally the descriptions in the catalogue have been followed, but these are subjective and some objects can be described in many ways. Sometimes numbers are unclear. It is best to check objects against entries and not to rely solely on catalogue cards (and therefore this transcription). If there are any missing they havenot been indicated The reference is in the Haddon Library: P232 H. This gives more information on the sites and illustrations of some quartz microliths and information on Hartley' s classification of them. In Hartley' s letter of 29 August 1915 he explains how he has sent some material to other places. But the museum must have later obtained from him quartz tools collected from later years.
