Description

A rattle made from a curved stick which has eight serrated discs of gourd on it. The end of the stick has a small, serrated disc and is bent back towards the handle and tied off with a piece of string. A rusty iron knife is attached with a blue and tan wool, and there are also two attachments made from strips of cane.

Luggage tag tied to object, signed AvH [A von Hugel], is stamped " Feb'y 1915 4" and adds "?scarecrow". It also notes " 237: and "37" , the latter circled. The Thomas catalogue notes both the Museum and the Thomas number as "39". [R.Hand 25/9/2001]
