Catalogue card 3 for Z 16000 A-C notes: 'made from stripping and beating the underbark of a tree of the ficus family. Used originally for dress. In the c19th, it was said the Asante here dressed in kyenkyen at a stage in the annual Odwira Festival. Also used for covering the tops of rooms to form a sort of ceiling.'
