Description (Physical description)
Kalaga depicting scenes from the Ohnmadanti jataka tale. The condition of the kalaga is poor, with the paper behind the embroidery disintegrating which results in the embroidery falling away from the piece.
The scene shows a palace with ten figures depicted. The left and right sides of the tapestry show court attendants in detailed dress. The middle picture is surrounded by two trees on either side, to separate the scenes. In the middle there is a king and queen on two elephants, one white and one grey, underneath two parasols. The border of the kalaga is decorated with floral motif and court attendants at regular intervals. These outer figures have the most damage, some are almost completely coming away from the material, while on others the paper backing is visible and extremely fragile. These characters appear to have lost most of their colour too. There is a tear on the edge of the tapestry.
