Description (Physical description)
Painting depicts a male figure, a soldier or possibly a general, riding a horse in armour; the way in which the figure is drawn suggests that the horse is moving fast. He is accompanied by two other figures in the bottom left hand corner of the painting however only their weapons and helmets are visible. In the background is Mount Fuji. The whole scene is painted as if there is a rush to get somewhere, the main figure has an angry face with his hair and clothing being caught in the wind. The weather creates an ominous atmosphere as it is black fading into grey. The sea also has lots of ripples. There is slight damage to the painting, a large tear at the top and a crease along the middle where the painting has previously been folded.
The painting is only attached to the thin card by glue across the top side. There is water damage to the card seen in the bottom right corner.
