Hand written note on back of painting reads 'Framed 30 July 1998 (Thurs). Painting of King Theebaw (r. 1878 - 1885) and his Queen Sup[illegible] watching a dance performance in the palace gardens at Mandalay, Burma. late c.1880s (Portobello Road London)'. The description given on the back of the painting and the one given in Singer's original inventory are slightly different, however these could be different interpretations of the same scene.
