Description
Portable betel box in two pieces and without the inner tray. The box is mainly coloured with red lacquer, with yellow and black details. The interior is brown. The lid depicts an equestrian figure which is proceeded by five armed men, two animals, three feeding deer and a displaying bird. In the centre is a leaping fanged demon and beneath is an animal. The side panel has scale-like decorations. The base is decorated with a panel of moulded put-lone (turned pillars) with a prancing toe (mythical lion) in the centre.

A label adhered to the exterior reads '16'. This is in reference to an inventory of lacquerware seen amongst the collector's paperwork written on 14th April 1999. An additional label adhered to the base reads '4', however, it is not clear which inventory, if any, this refers to.
