Context (Amendments / updates)
There is uncertainty regarding the spelling of the findspot of much of the archaeological material collected by the Sandhurst Ethiopia Expedition and donated in 1968. The Accession Register gives the place as 'Hamasa River', but the subsequent catalogue cards and database records record the spelling as 'Hamasu River' (although this could be a transcription error). In May 2017, the Anglo-Ethiopian society visited MAA and saw part of this collection. Anne Parsons, Secretary of the Society, and Dorothea Mcewan, Warburg Institute, suggested that the site might be 'Hamazen' or 'Hamasen'. Whilst this is awaiting confirmation, all spellings have been tentatively added to the Place field.
