Context (CMS Context)
Labelled "Whittaker 1912, Haslemere". Whittaker was a Cambridge antique dealer. Roman pottery has been found at Haslemere, Surrey, but the large quantity of decorated in this collection and the fact some of the pieces are burnt make it very unlikely that all this material came from the small Haslemere cemetery. Roman London seems a more probable site. Possibly Whittaker bought the collection from a Haslemere antiquarian.

Catalogue card notes: 'Ex Simpson Coll., bt. Whittaker' and '*C.A.S', the latter of which implies that it was money given by the CAS that allowed for the purchase of these sherds. Previously the Source field was blank, 'Simpson' and 'CAS' have now been added to it.
