This object was previously in the collection of Harry Geoffrey Beasley, no.1845. It is recorded in Beasley's original acquisition register (vol.2) as: 'SOLOMON: - Composite fish hook. Barb + shank of turtle shell, to which is attached a strip of tridacna shell. Locality: MALA. Bt the Melanesian Mission.' It was purchased on 18 July 1926 [Lucie Carreau, 05/09/2017].

Catalogue card notes in blue ink, handwritten, '5 tortoise shell fish hooks with mother of pearl or plain white shell weights in the form of fish. C,D & E - completely stylised. All but E have short strings of red, white or blue beads in various combinations attached to the binding which binds the weight to the shank'.
