A small label attached to the object reads 'Beasley Coll. / SOLOMON. / ULAWA. / 1833 c/-' on one side and [added later in blue pen:] '54.317 E' on the other.

This object was previously in the collection of Harry Geoffrey Beasley, no.1833 C. It is recorded in Beasley's original acquisition register (vol.2) as: 'SOLOMON GROUP. ULAWA: - Three hooks of pearl shell in one piece. The shanks of two carved as fish. @ r/o. Bt the Melanesian Mission.' It was purchased on 18 July 1926 [Lucie Carreau, 05/09/2017].
