Description
Fish-hook with large shell shank and tortoiseshell point. Shank and point are bound together with thin cords of twisted plant fibre and a small wooden washer. The top of the shank is carved and notched so that a fibre snood could be attached to it (not present).

This object was previously in the collection of Harry Geoffrey Beasley, no.3520. It is recorded in Beasley's original acquisition register (vol.3) as: 'SOLOMON GROUP: - A similar bonito hook having a greater expansion of the shank at the last end. The lashing is of fibre, & the wooden pins appear to be missing. Bt J.F.G Umlauff, Hamburg.' It was purchased on 6 September 1934.
