Description (CMS Descriptions)
'D: Reuben noted that the designs show frigate birds and dolphins, but no sign of humans. From the triangles for the land at the very bottom, there are close in shore three panels of zig-zag lines intermingled tightly to show dense flocks of frigate birds. Further off shore (as is indicated by the lesser density) four frigate birds (belama), coming and going, are flying over shoals of bonito fish. Still further off-shore are a line of dolphins and then a panel of frigate birds extending into the far, far distance. Rueben said he understood the scene, where the bonito fishery was fundamental to the economic and religious life on pre-Christian Simbo, but he did not know if there was a specific story to this design too. Rhys Richards 8 July 2004. Transcribed by F. Veys 13/9/2004.
