Description (CMS Description)
[One of] 26 pieces of barkcloth, some of identical pattern. Designs in black, white, red, yellow and brown. S and T are sewn together. In poor condition. Not later than 1850.
'A: black and red parallel lines on a white background, very similar to U;
B: groups of black lines alternate with groups of red lines;
C: black and red very fine designs organised in lozenge-shapes;
D: Dark piece of barkcloth painted in black and red;
E: there are black parallel lines with crossing red lines on a white background, very similar to Q;
F: small piece with black wavy lines and red thicker wavy lines;
G: has a cross-hatched pattern of red and black lines;
H: parallel bands with wavy black lines, plain red stripes and white bands with red dots;
I: there are groups of parallel red lines, very similar to W;
J: piece of barkcloth with red and black parallel horizontal stripes, and wavy black vertical stripes;
K: black and red stripes are broken up by a lozenge pattern in beige;
L: there is one red diagonal stripe with black lines, the rest of the piece has red dots and black plus signs;
M: there are red lines on a white background, one part of the piece has red and black lines alternating;
N: black and red designs painted on a white background. The designs are organised in rectangles;
O: there are parallel black and red lines with red dots on a white background;
P: red and orange parallel lines alternate;
Q: there are black parallel lines with crossing red lines on a white background, very similar to E;
R: red stripes on a plaint background;
S and T: Two pieces are sewn together, S looks very similar to L with a diagonal red stripe and red dots and black plusses, T looks very similar to M with its red stripes and red and black stripes;
U: black and red parallel lines on a white background, very similar to A;
V: there are parallel black and red lines with wavy black lines placed perpendicularly, very similar to J;
W: striped red pattern on a beige background, very similar to I;
X: red stripes alternate with black wavy lines and bands with red dots on a white background;
Y: there are squares with wavy black lines set against a white background. short red lines with black dots fill the white space;
Z : three groups of three parallel black lines are followed by a group of three thicker red lines. F. Veys, 20/12/2004'
