The print was originally framed but as it was not safe to ship it with glass, the frame was removed by John Pearson and shipped separately (see 2016.194.2).

The print was purchased from the Aatuti Art Gallery in Burnt Pine, Norfolk Island on 23 June 2016. Aatuti Art Gallery displayed works by artists Sue Pearson and was managed by Sue Pearson's parents, Jan and John. John passed away in the summer of 2016.

Exhibited as part of Pacific Currents, Maudslay Hall, 18 April 2018- 24 October 2022 when it was replaced with a facsimilie.

Label noted "5 ‘Map of an Island III’. Sue Pearson, screen print, 2016 This artwork is based on an Australian government map showing the subdivisions of Norfolk Island in 1900. It reflects on the historical layering and sometimes uncomfortable co-existence of different groups within the space of a small island. The land was divided between the Melanesian Mission and the Pitcairn Islanders, descendants of Tahitian women and the HMS Bounty mutineers, who were resettled on Norfolk Island in 1856. It also shows the old British penal settlement abandoned in the early 19th century. The artist originally framed the print with Norfolk Pine, native to the Island. Norfolk Island.
